  1. I've actually never seen the Phantom of the Opera, but after hearing your descriptions of the mise en scene in Webber's version of the film, I need to get on that right away! I thought it was interesting that you said Leroux's writing style wasn't very sophisticated. It goes to show that even some people who aren't the best writers can write lasting classics.

I've never seen the Phantom of the Opera either, and I think it's interesting that becuause Leroux didn't have a sophisiticated writing style the movies (through mis-en-scene) do an equal if not better job of conveying Leroux's message than the novel did. I think movies have an unfairly bad reputation, especially movies that are based on novels, so it was refreshing to see a movie portrayed in a positive manner.
